Test

The following describes the process and methodology used to test the performance of Peachtree by Sage - Quantum 2009 compared to Peachtree by Sage Premium Accounting 2008. The tests were conducted at Sage Software, by Sage Software employees during February of 2008. Three tests scenarios were conducted. First, the Full Product Workload Test evaluated the performance of transaction and maintenance save times plus report open times. Second, the Stress Test evaluated the performance of invoice save times and opening reports in quick succession. Third, manual testing was conducted on lookup lists. The tests were performed to evaluate the speed of the lookup list load time. Tests reflect the recommended hardware and software configurations for Peachtree Quantum.

Peachtree by Sage - Quantum Full Product Workload Test

Test Environment

Five client machines were connected to the same company data loaded on a separate server machine. The network was isolated from external traffic. Execution and timing of test events were performed by an automated testing tool. The machine configurations were as follows:

Client Machine Configuration (20 machines)
  • Dell Optiplex 170L
  • 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 processor
  • 1.0GB RAM
  • Seagate ST340014A hard drive
  • Intel Pro/100 VE network card
  • Hyperthreading: Off
  • OS: Windows XP SP2
Client Machine Configuration (10 machines)
  • Dell Optiplex GX620
  • 2.8GHz Pentium D Processor
  • 1.00 GB RAM
  • Wester Digital WD800JD hard drive
  • Broadcom 57xx Gigabit Integrated
  • Controller network card
  • OS: Windows XP SP2

Server Machine Configuration
  • Dell PowerEdge SC420
  • 3.4Ghz Pentium 4 processor
  • 2.0GB RAM
  • Seagate ST3160023AS SATA hard drive (160.0 GB, 7200rpm)
  • Capacity: 160.0 GB
  • Speed: 7200 rpm
  • Average Seek Time: 8.5 ms
  • Cylinders: 16383
  • Heads: 16
  • Sectors: 63
  • Broadcom NetExtreme 5751 Gigabit network card
  • Hyperthreading: On
  • OS: Windows 2003 Server

Environment

Isolated network using Dell Powerconnect 3324 24-port switched 100 megabit ethernet

Test Scenario

The purpose of this test is to validate performance, concurrency, and scalability of the overall Peachtree/Quantum product line based on defined user workloads. A major user issue for many years has been the use of file locking that prevent concurrent users from performing activities in a timely fashion.

All machines have a designated set of work (30 activities) to complete during the test. Average of 60 seconds between each activity per machine. Wait times are distributed to various locations during each activity.
